Men's menopausal changes
Do men go through the menopause?
Yes, men also experience hormonal changes as they age. Decreasing testosterone levels can manifest itself in fatigue, less energy, mood swings, or a decreased ability to perform. But what lies behind these changes, what symptoms can occur, and what can be done to help strengthen one’s well-being? Find out what men should know about the menopausal transition and how to consciously and actively manage this life stage.
Overview
Menopause in the male sex
Even men can experience symptoms in old age, similar to those that occur in women during the so-called „menopause“. This „andropause“ (from the Greek „anér“ = man and „pausis“ = end) shows gradual and very individual effects that the man often cannot identify. He is not aware of them. Unlike women, he usually does not experience the hormonal changes as drastically. Please remember, however: Menopause is not a disease. You have the power to remain strong and efficient during this time of change. Better understand the menopausal changes as an opportunity, as a breakthrough into a new phase of life. And look forward to new things!
What are the signs, symptoms, and complaints in men during the menopausal period?
Are you feeling tired, irritable and listless? Is your performance declining? Are you easily irritated? Your hair loss is increasing. Your muscle mass is slowly decreasing. Your belly is growing. And many men struggle with hot flushes. Your bone density is decreasing. Your joints are painful. Your skin loses its elasticity.
The body changes. The mind „follows“. But sometimes the opposite can also be the case. The „midlife crisis“ makes you exercise excessively, after all, a man wants to remain attractive. He pays attention to his appearance and suppresses the changes.
„I have everything within me that allows me to work.“
Hildegard of Bingen
How long does the menopause last in men?
Men are not immune to the changes of the menopause either. They last for a period of about 15 to 20 years and usually begin around the age of 40. The production of testosterone decreases. Natural aging becomes visible. The man often suffers in silence.
Heat waves in men during the menopausal years
The man thinks to himself: „Typical woman.“ No. The man also suffers from hot flushes.
Too little movement, constant overexertion and stress, but also alcohol consumption, can trigger intense and frequent sweating. The sensitive thyroid gland reacts. The heart beats faster. And there it is: that unpleasant heat wave.
Sweating during the menopausal transition in men
Many men are familiar with these symptoms/phases: uncontrollable sweat beads emerge from the pores, usually in the most inappropriate situations. Exactly when you need them the least. From the chest area, this flying heat „rolls“ like a wave into the neck, head, and upper arms. Your sweat glands react to the heat. The sweat evaporates on the skin’s surface. You start to shiver and freeze. The body cools down until the next attack.
Turn the Andropause, the time of menopause, into your best years and improve your quality of life. The following three „tips“ can help you do this:
- Accept: Adjust to the changes. This will make you happy and open up new freedoms and new paths for you.
- Building: Move. With purpose and intention. Anything that brings you pleasure and gives you new energy has a noticeable effect on your vitality in all areas. Eating in a pleasurable and healthy way doesn’t have to be a contradiction. Your metabolism rejoices. You feel „light“. It keeps you strong, capable, and healthy.
- Relaxing: You have accomplished a lot. You have more than earned it. Look forward to what is to come. You can see it in your faces: Your health has taken on a new importance. Your destination is now called health.

Questions and answers
Already discovered?
How do I recognize a testosterone deficiency in men in the menopausal years?
Typical signs include persistent fatigue, decreased performance, less muscle strength, an enlarged abdomen, low mood, sleep problems, and a decreased desire to engage in activities. However, these symptoms can also have other causes, such as stress, thyroid problems, or depression. Only a medical examination with a blood test can provide certainty; it is best to take the test in the morning and repeat it if the result is abnormal.
How are men affected by the menopause, abdominal fat and weight gain?
With age, energy consumption decreases, muscle mass decreases, and fat often accumulates in the abdomen. Low testosterone levels can exacerbate this. Regular exercise, muscle building, and a balanced diet can counteract this. Our nutrition counseling can help you find practical steps for everyday life.
How can our menopause cure help with sleep disorders and irritability during menopause?
Regular sleep schedules, exercise during the day, little alcohol in the evening, and relaxation rituals help many men. Our menopause course offers plenty of options for breaks in nature and soothing treatments that are intended to relieve the nervous system.
Is Andropause the same as the midlife crisis?
No, although there may be overlapping signs. Andropause describes hormonal and physical changes; the midlife crisis rather represents a spiritual reorientation in the middle of life. Both can coincide. Whether physical causes play a role is determined by a visit to a doctor. A break with counseling during our menopausal transition can help with the reorientation.
How long does the treatment for men in the menopausal period last and what does it cost?
Our exchange year course for men is always designed around the fixed weekly schedule from Saturday to Saturday and can also be extended to 14 or 21 days. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us in advance.
